Data Innovation: Generating Climate Solutions

This high level side event jump starts the Sustainable Innovation Forum with discussions and examples of data-driven innovations to accelerate climate solutions and the Sustainable Development Agenda.

The objective is to facilitate partnerships between governments, innovators and climate experts by providing a forum to share cutting-edge ideas, inform policy, inspire collective action, and explore concrete ways to replicate and scale data innovations for SDG 13.

The event will feature the winners of the Data for Climate Action (D4CA) challenge, an unprecedented open data innovation competition to leverage big data and analytics for the social good. The challenge was launched earlier this year as a call for innovators, scientists and climate experts to use data innovation to accelerate climate solutions.

UN Environment Executive Director Erik Solheim will lead off the event, which will feature senior government officials, top business executives, and civil society leaders. Throughout the day, participants will highlight progress on policies and programmes that are being implemented in developing and emerging economies.
