Ms. Elsa Galarza is Minister of Environment of Peru since July 2016. Previously, she was Deputy Minister of Fisheries of the Ministry of Production of Peru (2009-2010), and adviser to the Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru (2010) and member of the Multisectorial Group in charge of the creation of Ministry of the Environment of Peru. She has also been a consultant to the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Andean Development Corporation (CAF), among others.
Ms. Galarza holds a Bachelor and Licentiate in Economics from Universidad del Pacifico (Lima) and a Master in Agricultural Economics from Iowa State University. She has been Principal Professor of the Department of Economics of Universidad del Pacifico and Director of the Research Center of the same university.
