Dr.Gemedo Dalle holds a PhD in Rangeland Ecology (Agricultural Sciences) from Georg-August University of Goettingen, Germany, MSc in Botanical Sciences (Biology) and BSc in Biology both from Addis Ababa University.

As of November 2016, Dr. Gemedo Dalle has been appointed as Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia. He had been Director General of the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute from 2012 to October 2016. He served in different capacities in the same institute in the past including as Director of the Genetic Resources Transfer and Regulation Directorate and Head of the Forest Genetic Resources Conservation Department.

Furthermore, Dr. Gemedo is Associate Professor of Biodiversity and Vegetation Ecology in Addis Ababa University and has been teaching Ecology, Botany, Environmental Ecology and Biodiversity Management courses at post graduate levels.

Dr.Gemedo Dalle is among the African Negotiators in International Conventions such as the Nagoya protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources (ITPGRFA). He had been CBD and ITPGRFA National Primary Focal Point for Ethiopia for more than five years. Dr. GemedoDalle served as Chair of the CBD Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technical and Technological Advises (SBSTTA) from November 2012 to October 2014. His professional focus is on biodiversity conservation and management, ecosystem management, botany and vegetation ecology.
